FIM News: FALL - WINTER 2008

FLU vs. YOU
Did you know that the best way to avoid the flu and common cold this fall and winter is to exercise? Regular resistance training along with cardiovascular activity is not only a great workout for our bodies, but also for our immune system. When you are good to your body, your body returns the favor.  With regular exercise, you will find yourself much less susceptible to these germs. If you should feel ill, studies also show that you will be able to overcome the common cold 50 to 60 percent faster than those who aren’t physically fit.

Some key points when exercising in the winter:

  • Always warm up and stretch your muscles before beginning resistance training
  • Make sure you aren't still sweating when you leave FIM and head outdoors
  • Stay properly hydrated. We tend to consume less liquids when we are cold
  • Dress in layers so you can stay comfortable as you heat up and cool down

Give the gift of health and fitness this holiday season!
FIM offers gift certificates for the holidays. If you know someone who could benefit from working with a FIM trainer, give them this meaningful gift that could improve their health and self confidence. Also, ask for FIM gift certificates from your friends and loved ones for yourself. Happy Holidays!

Plan Your Work and Work Your Plan:
If you expect results from your exercise routine, then you need to plan your work. Your FIM trainer knows exactly where your workout emphasis is needed, and ensures that you are training at the appropriate level to achieve your goals. Together, you and your trainer can make sure you are receiving the most out of your session. But you need to also plan your diet and your cardio exercises in between training sessions. If you plan your work and work your plan, then you can plan on seeing the results you expect. The more planning you do, the less chance you will have to deviate from it.
